Adventure Media Scholarship

developing, equipping, and empowering female mountain bikers.

this is more than a handout—it’s an investment.

the Women’s Adventure Media Mountain Biking Scholarship was conceived as an idea in the Summer of 2018 when I was on a bike tour from Seattle to San Francisco with the two women in each of these photos.

women often feel intimated by male-dominated sports, such as mountain biking. the reality is, even if it’s not always represented in media or our communities, tons of women mountain bike and totally crush at it! gender does not discriminate on enjoyment of the sport, and this scholarship hopes to highlight that by encouraging more women to get in the saddle, build their self-confidence, and realize their potential.

what’s included

$100 gift card to REI

Oveja Negra Chuckbucket Snack Bag

2 Skills Clinics on topics of your choice

the goal of this scholarship is to award one woman of the incoming Adventure Media class with tools and gear to help offset any financial barriers to entry she might be facing. in addition, this scholarship also aims to provide hard skills that can be used in any cycling setting—from how to change a tube, to derailler adjustments and proper riding position.

by giving both financial and skills assistance, we hope to encourage more women to get out on bikes, promote inclusivity in mountain biking culture, and invite others to do the same.

an important aspect of this scholarship is the ‘give back’ portion. if you apply for this scholarship it is assumed that this trip will not be the only time you engage in outdoor recreation or mountain bike, and it is expected that you will use your skills and/or resources to pay it forward in some way at the conclusion of the course.

APPLY NOW

The application will remain open until February 1st and the winner will be announced on Feburary 12th. We recommend answering the longer questions in a Word document and then pasting them in so you can save your answers and come back at your leisure.

Hey there!

My name is Anna Claire and I am SO excited that you’re a part of the Adventure Media course and that you’re interested in applying for this scholarship.

I swore when I came to college and started working at the TTU Outdoor Pursuits center that I would never try mountain biking.

Too scary, too difficult, too out of my comfort zone.

After some convincing from my boss, I went on a group mountain bike ride in Palo Duro Canyon and fell in love with biking.

Long story short, I’m now a huge proponent of getting more people on bikes and creating gender equity in the sport of mountain biking!

I helped start Grit MTB Festival and after college biked down the West Coast with my good friends Caitlin and Emily, the Biker Babes, who will help me with selecting the winner of the scholarship.

I’m also an alum of the adventure media class myself, and I’m so stoked for you to experience it.
